Baby Josh | Melbourne Newborn Photographer

Sometimes when I meet a tiny human in my studio, I fall in love instantly.  I mean, of course I completely adore every brand new baby I meet, who wouldn’t?!  They are tiny and squishy and sleepy and cuddly and precious.  Their tiny toes and fingers and eyelashes and dimples are completely delicious and you just can’t stop staring!!

But, there are times, where I just get a connection with a baby, it’s not a physical connection, more an emotional one…or maybe it’s not even emotional.  It’s not spoken, I just know it’s there when I look at their little face.  I find myself staring at them between photos, getting lost in a moment, quietly taking in all of their little details, the softness of their skin, the flakey bits of new skin their bodies no longer need, the almost invisible stands of hair on the edges of their ears.

As I write this, I grow more curious as to where this silent invisible connection may come from, and looking at little Josh here, I think, perhaps it’s that they remind me of my little ones, or other little ones in my family.  And then, you think that this little guy in front of you, is someone’s brand new.  Someone’s Son, Grandson, Nephew.  Perhaps he is the first, perhaps he is the first boy, perhaps he has many cousins eager to smother him with love.   I completely adore family, and the differences between every single one of us, every family is different and has something that makes them tick, and every one always has a funny family member that just makes us all laugh, roll our eyes, shake our heads in wonder…and perhaps, this little guy will blow the minds of his entire family as he grows and shares life with them.

I love that simply looking through these photos from little Josh’s newborn photoshoot with me, you can put your imagination to good use and plan his life, pretend you’re looking at the very next astronaut to land on the moon, a bright young man who will discover the cure for cancer, a writer of beautiful children’s stories, a football star, a doctor, a teacher, a dentist, anything.  Josh could grow up to be anything he likes and I know his family will surround him with endless, unconditional love no matter the path he choose.

Looking at the concentration in those little eyebrows frowning back at me I have a feeling he’ll be a little serious man for a while, or perhaps bury his head in books!

And that’s my ramblings for this Monday morning…probably got off track a little…but hey, it’s my blog so what are you going to do about it?!

Before I sign off, I’d like to introduce you to the adorable Josh Thomas Campbell, his big furbrother Franklin and his awesome parents Brooke and Simon.  You guys are legends, thank you SO much for sharing your family with me and allowing me to be your newborn photographer.

Melbourne Newborn Photographer | Baby Harvey

Meet grumpy, frowny little Man Harvey and his adorable big Brother Charlie.  These two little men had my heart from the minute they walked in the door, Charlie wasn’t a huge fan of being in front of the camera, but we tickled some smiles out of him and the constant promise of sultanas got us through.

Harvey and those eyebrows…he gave me the BEST facial expressions all the way through his session, he has such a little old man face, such delicious pouty lips and that hair! ❤

A Newborn Photography session in my Montmorency Studio is always a calm one, quiet, peaceful, a day off for you while I play with your children.  This day with Harvey and Charlie was not unlike every other session.  If you bring your older children in to play along, there are toys hidden away that I only ever bring out once I am ready for their attention not to be on me and their brand new baby.  A little table and chairs set aside for all the very best artists to do their drawing.  A ridiculously comfy reclining glider chair which has been slept in countless times by both exhausted up all night feeding Mums and Dads.

Newborn nappies and wipes are well stocked on the change table in the corner and, as this is your day off from all the hard stuff, I do all the heavy lifting for you.  Simply hand me your baby, let me cuddle them endlessly while I create some precious memories for you and your family to look back on forever as your little people grow.

Tara, Jason, Charlie and Harvey, thank you for your day in the studio.  Thank you for choosing me as your Newborn Photographer and allowing me the pleasure of your company.  I hope your day off was a relaxing one and I hope the sultanas were as delicious as they looked Charlie 😉

Melbourne Maternity Photographer | On This Day | Rick Family

On This Day in 2015.  When ever I head back to the Adelaide Hills to photograph families who miss me, I try to make as much time as I can to catch up with as many beautiful friends as I can.  It’s always a huge bonus when catching up turns into a maternity photoshoot on the top of a mountain as the sun goes down!

Mel and Lily first joined Baby Club when Lily was just a teeny tiny month or two old, I remember the day they walked in the studio, my own little Lily was still also very tiny, they were just a month apart and I had taken a short break from shooting to feed her between little people.  Mel sat down and we all just sat around chatting, an instant Mother’s Group in the studio.

As they continued to visit each and every month for Baby Club over the years, our friendship grew into something I truly value to this day.  This gorgeous family is one I always make time for on my visits back to Adelaide.

Mel is one incredible beautiful pregnant woman, she grows the most adorable babies and it was an honour to be able to capture her third pregnancy.  It was a little chilly on the top of the mountain, but the most incredible light and stunning view!  Lily picked flowers and danced around, William, the sweet little man had the cutest cheekiest smile and it still amazes me just how much the two children look alike.

The family cuddles are what I live for and I will never grow tired of photographing these guys.  Sadly I couldn’t make it back to town to photograph sweet little Natalia when she arrived, but one day, maybe soon, it should be just about time to update these photos to make it a family of five ❤

Mel and Liam, from Baby Club to your wedding, to all the maternity photos and cake smash sessions, each and every time you have been in front of my camera has been an absolute joy for me and I cannot thank you enough for your support of me behind the camera and for your friendship.  It has meant the world to me.

Melbourne Family Photographer | On This Day | Hutchinson Family

On This Day.  July 4th 2015…how can this session be three years ago already?!  I’d been living in Melbourne for only 10 months and this was I think my 5th visit back to the Adelaide Hills since the move.  It was a tough move for me and for my photography.  All of my friends, my supporters, my SA family were back there and it was difficult for me to find my feet in Montmorency.  Business was slow in Melbourne but it was still booming in Adelaide, especially because of all of the beautiful families who kept coming back to me to help see their children grow.

Sharnie, what can I say about this gorgeous woman and her incredible family?!  We first met WAY back in something like 2012?? Possibly even 2011.  I was trading as Sweet Memory Photography back then and running my monthly Baby Club photoshoots.  Her girls were TINY and we just clicked. Every month they would visit my studio and we would play imaginations in the set ups I had created.  We became friends, we laughed over the girls craziness, my Lily would climb all over me as I photographed them and Sharnie would tell me how excited the girls always were when it was visit Tiff Day and then they wouldn’t want to leave!

So when it came time to get the whole family in front of the camera again, of course any excuse to head back to Adelaide was a good one, but this time, little Man Thomas was on the scene.  A brand new family member who sadly didn’t get to join in the Baby Club fun, but he was absolutely going to be part of their family photoshoot.  The first as a family of 5.

We met on the family farm in the Adelaide Hills, shortly before the sun went down.  Golden Hour, my favourite hour.  The girls were completely adorable and SO excited to see me, seeing them was like seeing my own nieces and I am cool Aunty Tiff.  Jasmine looking like her superhero self in her batman cape and Olivia and her big bright blue eyes and cheeky smile.  Thomas…well what can I say about those cheeks, not to mention the deliciously adorable little suit he was in…welcome to the family little Man, oh I could cuddle you forever!!

We played games and had cuddles, they showed off with all their showing off abilities and I completely lapped it up.  We hid amongst the trees, jumped on the four wheeler for a pose or two, ventured down the hill to the rail line and the then back up the hill for what is to this day, one of my absolute favourite photos I have ever taken.

Hutchinson Family, I know we have seen each other since this day and your family has grown by two more little feet, but a look back on memory lane is always fun for a Wednesday morning.  Thank you for being one of the first families to welcome me back home and for continuing to do so as the years go by.  I will never grow tired of photographing you all, and absolutely love my time with you and your little people.  Jasmine and Olivia, It melts my heart completely that you miss me when I am gone and count down the days til we see each other again.

Happy Farm Day Family Photoshoot Anniversary guys.  Much Love.

Melbourne Newborn Photographer | On This Day | Baby Billy

On This Day.  Today in 2017 sweet little man Billy visited me in my newborn studio in Montmorency with his beautiful parents Briana and Andrew.

Each day when I look back at photoshoots from the past, it really is hard to believe that so much time has passed already.  This session was a whole year ago, yet it feels like just yesterday that these three were so full of smiles and love and big baby eyebrow frowns in the studio.

Billy had the coolest little mohawk in his hair and the grumpiest new baby frown I had every seen!  When he opened them, his gorgeous big blue eyes were so intense and he really looked at me.  His sweet newborn baby flakey skin reminded us that even though he had been in this world for over a month, he was still brand new and life was only just beginning for him.

Briana and Andrew, thank you so much for choosing me as your newborn photographer, for spending your morning with me in the studio and for trusting in me to capture Billy as he was, so tiny, so chubby, so new.

Happy Newborn photoshoot anniversary Billy!

Melbourne Newborn Photographer | On This Day | Baby Amelia

On This Day.  Three years have passed, so I think it might be time to plan another personal project day…

In 2015, I got to chatting with Anna Davis from Anna Hartley Photography about how both of us only ever shoot with nuetral colours.  We still do this now, because thats what we love, that’s our style, it suits us and our clients who keep coming back to us as their families grow.

I remember we were talking about all the colour some photographers use and how simply beautiful it always looks.  While it might not be our everyday style, we both can really appreciate the stunning photographs these photographs come out with from their sessions.  So, long story short, we decided to create a session with a tiny human, run a newborn photoshoot together, shooting only the colours we would never use.

We collected everything we could find that we thought would look amazing, colours we still liked of course and created something bright and beautiful.  We did a Model Call out for families in East Gippsland and I ventured out of my newborn studio in Montmorency and hit the road for Lakes Entrance to hang in Anna’s then in home studio for the day.

It was the most fun I had had behind the camera in AGES!  Working alongside someone can be really rewarding and eye opening. While we may have similar styles, especially when it comes to colour, every creative soul has a different outlook, will see something different, even if the subject we are photographing is exactly the same, with the same lighting and same expressions, we will always see it slightly different to each other.

Brand new baby Amelia was the perfect model for us on the day.  We both fell completely in love when her Mum Rebecca brought her into the studio.  She slept, like a baby 😉 she had the most precious little cheeks and was oh so tiny.  Me and my need for just a little of my style was very excited to have captured a big stretchy yawn face.  Both Anna and I are natural light photographers, we don’t utilise any studio lighting equipment so we rely heavily on the weather playing our game.  I remember shooting for a good part of the day, trying new set ups, trying to remember what we had come up with in our preparations and changing things up when our creative minds took over and we slowly but surely ran out of light as we completed our last and possibly my favourite set up of the day.

Thank you so much Rebecca for trusting both Anna and I to jump right outside our comfort zone to create something memorable for you and your family.  I am sure Amelia is much much bigger and wide awake these days!  Happy 3 year newborn photoshoot anniversary Amelia, thank you for being the perfect model.

Melbourne Newborn Photographer | On This Day | Baby Indi

Today brings memories from another gorgeous baby girl who I was lucky to have met back in 2016.  Sweet brand new baby Indi Charlotte was born on Friday June 10th 2016 at 4.15pm.  She was a teeny tiny 2.9kgs when she arrived in Mum Rachael’s arms and became a brand new baby sister for her brand new big brother Quinn.

I was lucky enough to meet this beautiful family in my newborn studio on June 28th when Indi was just 18 days new and oh my goodness was she adorable!

She had the most incredible eyebrows I had ever seen, the hairiest of shoulders, a beautiful little button nose, eyelashes to die for and when she opened those big brown eyes, her face just lit up.  Quinn was a very adoring big brother, super helpful feeding her with the bottle, the most precious cuddles and sweet baby kisses.  I always love to photograph new siblings together and this day in the studio was very special.  The love I got to witness was so sweet.

I loved this session so much that if you visit the studio in Montmorency, you will see quite a few of the images displayed in my beautiful bamboo frames.  I simply fell in love with little Indi and completely over photographed her!

Rachael and Tyronne, thank you so much for introducing me to Quinn and Indi, for spending the morning with me in the studio and for choosing me as your newborn photographer.  It was an absolute privilege to photograph you and your family together, to help you to remember just how tiny Indi was as she grows.  I hope to one day be lucky enough to do it all again.
